Fred Olsen Express strengthens its fleet with the new fast ferry Barlovento Express
Fred. Olsen Express has announced the addition of a new fast ferry to its fleet. This modern vessel, named Barlovento Express, will begin operations this month, reinforcing key routes and increasing the company's capacity to meet the growing demand for connectivity across the archipelago.
A new era for maritime connectivity
The Barlovento Express will play a key role on the route connecting Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with Morro Jable, in Fuerteventura, ensuring an efficient and comfortable service for passengers. Additionally, this vessel will support a tight schedule of connections for 2025, including:
- New El Hierro-Tenerife route: Operational from December 31.
- Event coverage: such as the Bajada de la Virgen de los Reyes in El Hierro and the Bajada de la Virgen de las Nieves in La Palma.
A robust and diversified fleet
With the arrival of the Barlovento Express, Fred. Olsen Express will now operate:
- 8 high-speed vessels.
- 3 mini-ferries.
- 2 cargo ships.
These vessels run on seven inter-island maritime routes and a coastal route in the south of La Gomera. The company also maintains the Canary Islands' connection with mainland Spain through routes linking Gran Canaria and Tenerife with Huelva.
Leadership statements
Fred. Olsen, S.A. General Director Andrés Marín emphasized the company’s commitment to the territorial cohesion of the archipelago: “Following the integration of two new RORO vessels, we now add a new connection to El Hierro, and this additional ferry further strengthens our fleet.”
Fred. Olsen Express Fleet Director Juan Ignacio Liaño stated: “This new fast ferry helps us guarantee our services, allowing us to respond to increased demand during peak periods and maintaining our commitment to the people of every island.”
