Atlantic Ferry Considers Linking Ireland with Bouzas Vehicle Terminal
Atlantic Ferry is considering a new and exciting maritime route that would connect the Bouzas terminal in Vigo with Cork, Ireland. This project, which aims to turn Vigo into a major transportation hub in northwestern Spain, offers significant potential for both freight and tourism.
Key Route Details
The proposed connection, which would take between 24 and 28 hours, is expected to carry 150 passengers and up to 200 vehicles. With this frequency and capacity, Atlantic Ferry hopes to enhance transnational trade between Spain and Ireland while also promoting tourism by offering an ecological and efficient alternative to land transportation.
Benefits for the Vigo Region
This project has the potential to be a driver of economic development in the region, boosting the competitiveness of the Port of Vigo and positioning the city as a strategic point within Europe’s maritime transport network. The route could lead to growth in the tourism sector and create hundreds of jobs in the area.
The Future of Spain–Ireland Maritime Connection
If realized, this route will strengthen commercial and tourism ties between the two countries. Atlantic Ferry also plans to take advantage of existing infrastructure at Bouzas, making the project attractive to transport operators seeking fast and sustainable alternatives through the Strait.
Other Similar Routes
Like the potential Vigo–Cork connection by Atlantic Ferry, northern Spain already offers key maritime routes. These include Santander’s connections to Ireland and the UK operated by Brittany Ferries, and the Gijón–Nantes route, both serving tourism and freight needs.
